Cotton paper is  also known as rag paper or rag stock paper. It  is made using a cotton linter or cotton from used cloth (rags) as the primary material. The durability of cotton paper is very high. That is why important documents are generally printed on cotton paper. It is known to last many years without deterioration.

The cotton paper is superior in strength than wood pulp-based paper. Wooden pulp-based paper  may contain high concentrations of acids.
